Supporting People

The main purpose of Piccadilly is to offer a range of activities for people with a learning disability, based mainly in a horticultural and recycling environment, along with access to other community based opportunities and accredited training courses. These provide a starting point for developing skills such as communication, working with others, confidence building, being safe and other work-related skills.

Help Piccadilly Garden

As a charitable organisation we rely on the general public to help support our work. Any donation to Piccadilly is greatly appreciated.

Through continuous assessment and by working with other key partners we identify each persons needs and together agree relevant structured activities. We identify the barriers to learning, independence, accessing work and self advocacy and design strategies to support each student in overcoming these.

By working together, helping each other, interacting and socialising within a friendly and happy environment a sense of purpose and value is achieved.

Below are just some of the things we incorporate into daily life at Piccadilly Garden so as to help the people we support.

  • LDQ Training

The LDQ (Learning Disabilities Qualification) is for all new employees working in services for people with Learning Difficulties. The award is 4 units in length which is to be completed within 12 weeks. These 4 units meet the Common Induction Standards (C.I.S) and are certificated by City & Guilds.

The 4 units include: i) Principles of a learning disability support ii) Your role as a learning disability worker iii) Health & safety in a learning disability service iv) Protecting people with a learning disability from abuse. More information visit: www.ldaf.org.uk

  • Valuing People White Paper

Valuing People is the government's plan for making the lives of people with learning disabilities, their families and carers better.

It was written in 2001, and it was the first White Paper for people with learning disabilities for 30 years. It covers England.

It is based on people having:

    • - Their rights as citizens
    • - Inclusion in local communities
    • - Choice in daily life
    • - Real chances to be independent

  • Person Centred Approach

PCA (Person Centred Approach) means moving away from "Trying to fix people and waiting until they are ready" to more "Creating opportunities now and providing support as and when people need it"
